The latest Locus Magazine (July) mentions Hughes several times. "Matthew Hughes' well-plotted Archonate tale, 'Thwarting Jabbi Gloond', is a return to the early days of the Sherlock Holmesian consulting discriminator, Henghis Hapthorn, and a useful example of the principal that a mystery's solution lies too often in plain sight." (Nick Gevers, p58.) Black Brillion is number 25 in the Best SF Novel category of the Locus readers' poll, beating the redoubtable Jack McDevitt among others. The ad for Interzone list Matthew Hughes as a contributor to the May/June 2005 issue. Nominees for the 2005 Prix Aurora awards for Best Long-Form Work in English include Black Brillion.
